History and family
are one in the same here at Beaver Pond Farm. The farm was designated
by the
USDA as one of
very few “National Bicentennial Farms”
meaning it has remained in the same family for more than 200 years.
The seventh generation of the founding farm family is now working at
Beaver Pond Farm. Chopped out of virgin woodland in 1780 by
William Osgood, the farm has passed from generation to generation to
now, and in every generation, the farm has produced. From a
diversified 1700’s farm, to sheep, to dairy and chickens to it’s
present maple and multi-crop diversity, the soil has been worked by
the family. The farm is now owned by Fred and Norma McDonough and
their daughter and her husband, Rebecca and Bennie Nelson. Who
knows…maybe one of their children will someday continue the heritage!
